In a rather tragic development, a man from Budiriro who could not fathom the thought of living with HIV committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon.
The 32-year-old man only identified as Simbarashe is alleged to have committed suicide after receiving positive HIV test results.
He was married to two wives and was a well-known money changer at Current Shopping Centre in Budiriro.
His death comes just a few months after he got married to his second wife.
Speaking after the death, Simbarashe’s first wife only identified as Mai Makanaka revealed that her husband went into denial after receiving his results.
“Yesterday he came with the result slip of HIV test saying that he was positive.
He was not settled and it seems like he was not accepting that he was now positive,” she told H-Metro.
On Tuesday, Simbarashe reportedly woke up at around 1 am and told his first wife that he was going to kill himself. Efforts to stop him proved futile as he sneaked out of the house in the dead of the night.
“I tried stopping him but later he sneaked out of the house,”
”It was his first time to go out of the house that time,”
”Around 5am I was called that my husband Simba is dead,” said Mai Makanaka who is the first wife.
Simbarashe is alleged to have used a well rope to hang himself. A will showing on the distribution of his estate was found in the now-deceased’s pockets.
Meanwhile, Simbarashe’s death left many shell shocked as he did not tell anyone except his first wife about the results. A friend he was with the night before he decided to take his life claims that the now-deceased never shared any information about what was going on in his private life.
“I was with him last night but he told me nothing.
“I was surprised when I heard that he killed himself early in the morning (Tuesday),” he said.
