An early goal from Anwar El Ghazi was enough for Aston Villa to earn a 1-0 win at Leeds United.
El Ghazi collected a mishit shot from Ollie Watkins in the fifth minute before firing beneath Illan Meslier from close range for the only goal at Elland Road.
Emiliano Martinez in the Villa goal made a superb stop to deny Tyler Roberts a first-half equaliser, while El Ghazi was twice kept out by brilliant Meslier saves.
Villa came close to a second on 67 minutes, but Tyrone Mings’ header deflected off Liam Cooper and went narrowly over.
At the other end, Raphinha had a great chance for a last-minute equaliser but headed wide.
A first victory in three matches keeps Villa eighth on 36 points, one behind the top four with two matches in hand.
Leeds are two places below on 35 points.
