The First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa has encouraged the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) and inmates to prioritise traditional foods to sustain a healthy diet.

Inmates are usually regarded as outcasts but not for the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, who took her Cook Out Traditional Meal Competition to Marondera female open Prison this Monday.

While various types of traditional meals prepared by inmates were on display, it was the sight of a kitchen hut designed and built by the First Lady for inmates at Marondera female open Prison which attracted the attention of many.

Her advice on sustaining their well-being resonated well with the inmates, what with the mother of the nation being the brains behind the first ever female open prison in Africa.

Chairperson of Zimbabwe Female Open Prison Foundation, Mrs Roselyn Charehwa commended the First Lady for spearheading the unique project.

The Cook Out competition saw 20 female inmates drawn from Chikurubi, Marondera and Murewa battling it out, with each contestant receiving toiletries and food hampers which were also extended to every female inmate.

Amai Mnangagwa also had the opportunity to tour the Open Prison, which is now nearing completion.
