Zimbabwe was this morning plunged into mourning yet again barely two weeks after the passing on of iconic Zimdancehall artist SoulJah Love who was declared a provincial Hero. News of the death of popular actress Anne Nhira who starred in the country’s first soap opera Studio 263 filtered through early morning today to great shock.

Anne who played Vimbai Jari in the soapie that aired on ZBC TV from 2002-2007 was now based in South Africa. It is believed that Anne succumbed to injuries sustained from a mugging recently.

She becomes the 7th person from the production who has passed to date sadly joining Charmaine Mangwende (Mai Huni), Nevernay Chinyanga (Muvengwa), Pretty Xaba (Mai Muvengwa), Benhilda Marume(Tamara), Godwin Mawuru (Producer).

Originally written by Aaron Chiundura Moyo who then worked with Tawanda Gunda and Leanord Matsa on scripting. The TV series revolved around issues that happened within families and friends living in the capital Harare. One of the key issues that the film tackled was HIV/AIDS which at the time was ravaging the nation especially the youth population.
It was sponsored by Population Services International Zimbabwe (PSI-Z) through funding from the United States Agent for International Development (USAID) aimed at raising awareness about HIV and AIDS.
Whilst in South Africa, Anne continued to pursue her acting career playing a role in the SA soapie Zabalaza amongst other features.

Studio 263 went on to propel many actors and producers into stardom with the likes of Stanley Mambo who played (Sekuru) and is now based in Malawi running a big theatre organisation, Ben Mahaka who acted as Tom Mbambo who is one of the top film producers in the country and has a prominent TV series titled Gaza which airs on ZTV.
Stephen Chigorimbo who was John Huni and has been directing several films, Tinopona Katsande who played the character of Joyce Huni is a leading Radio and TV personality. Tatenda Mavetera who is still acting, hosting talk shows and a businesswoman, comedian Edgar Langeveldt, Joe Pike who was Jacob Huni is still in the showbiz, Tongai Chirisa (Detective Davis who is now at Hollywood.
